Can There Really Be A Secret To Prosperity?

From time to time over the past centuries, a quest has been launched for a critical life element. Some quality, feature, insight or other innate ability, which conferred advantage in the pursuit of a better, more prosperous or more fulfilled life. Is there something we should be seeking to access and utilize, to make our journey through life more satisfying, more productive, or more successful?

Some thirty or more years ago, I was introduced to an interesting program, delivered in some twenty four parts and titled, “The Key to Success & Wealth”. At that time I was open to ways to boost my income and although this was fascinating, the only way it was going to make me money was by selling it on to others. I did not appreciate at the time it was based on the famous, “The Master Key System” by Charles Haanel.

This publication was on sale in 1912, was banned by the church in 1930′s and by 1933 had sold 200,000 copies. It commends a ‘right way’ of thinking. It explains how to attract those things you want and exclude those things you don’t want. It was Haanel who established the principle that you attract from the universe more of what you think.

Visualisation, concentration, meditation and other techniques are presented as being useful in pursuit of your goals. This work has enabled many to gain greater understanding and insight, into how we can incorporate better ways of thinking and imprinting ideas into our subconscious. This subconscious, is said to be linked in a complex yet automatic way to the “greater consciousness” in the world around us.

It is claimed this 1912 publication provided the basis for the film ‘The Secret’ and the associated book by Rhonda Byrne.

For anyone who doesn’t know, The Secret is a collection of wisdom from many teachers. It is difficult to synthesize its content into a few words. It claims you can attract into your life anything you want, when you know how. So what is this method? In simple terms you can use your mind to attract the things you want. This ‘law of attraction’ is said to be the secret to prosperity, health, relationships and happiness.

Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (1937) was said to have been inspired by Andrew Carnegie the great philanthropist. It is based on two decades of research into how certain individuals achieve great success during their lifetime and provides principles to follow.

Constructive thinking, belief, faith and desire are identified as the driving forces.

The quantum physicist continues the quest to provide answers to life’s deepest secrets. There is talk about “the missing secret” borne out of a sense that there is perhaps something is yet to be discovered. Why are some being helped to achieve the sort of interaction they want with the world around them, while others are not achieving the life transformation they seek?

One further answer has emerged, recently but that is a story for another day.
